Shelves are stocked in preparation for the new Maryville Food City to greet its first customers Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 1715 W. Broadway Ave. The 58,800-square-foot supermarket is replacing the existing store across the highway. Food City currently operates three supermarkets in the Maryville/Alcoa area. “We are excited to be opening our new state-of-the-art Food City in Maryville,” Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer, said in a statement Friday. The new location includes an in-store bakery/deli, complete with a hot-food bar, café seating area, deluxe salad bar, hickory wood smoker and stone hearth pizza oven. Full-service meat and seafood departments offer pre-marinated and seasoned oven-ready products. In-house meat cutters will hand cut steaks and fresh meat to order. Expanded grocery, frozen food and produce departments offer selections of gourmet, international and specialty items. The Food City floral boutique will be staffed with a designer daily and offer fresh-cut floral arrangements, bouquets and gift items. Check-out service is provided by seven traditional check-out lanes and six self-check outs. The store offers a pharmacy equipped with drive-thru prescription services, Gas N’ Go with a five-pump station including diesel fuel, and an in-store Starbucks. The Maryville store is among the first to include several new features for the company, including an Asian wok and hot bar, Freal milkshake and Icee machines, and a pharmacy consultation room for discussing patient prescription needs and administering immunizations. The new location features several energy-saving concepts, ranging from energy-efficient glass cooler doors, parking lot lights and refrigeration systems to motion sensors and 100% LED lighting, as well as an open-rafter-ceiling design. “Our customers are really going to enjoy the expanded variety/selection and exciting new conveniences and services the new store offers,” store Manager Joe McCauley said. The new location also will continue to offer GoCart curbside pickup. Customers can select their purchases online at foodcity.com , and their order will be loaded into their vehicle when they arrive at the store. Payment can be made online or by credit or debit card at the time of pickup.
